How to apply?
Application requires the following steps:

Step 1: Read the admission requirements carefully.
Before you decide apply for the training programme be sure you meet all the Admission requirements. No exceptions on the requirements will be allowed. Every year we have too many candidates for only a small amount of scholarships, so the selection committee must be very strict.

Step 2: Register online to receive your application package

Step 3: Fill in the application form.
Enter all required data in the application form. Note that if not all required fields are entered, your file will remain incomplete and cannot not be submitted.

Step 4: Prepare and collect all required documents (checklist).
Do not staple your application file and add the documents in the following order:

  1. A complete curriculum vitae.
  2. An authenticated photocopy of the applicant’s university degree
  3. An authenticated photocopy of the applicant’s transcript of academic records for each academic year.
    * Note: ‘Authenticated’ means that the copy must be authenticated by the Belgian diplomatic office in the applicant’s country of origin or by the educational institution that issued the degree or by the Ministry of Education.
  4. A document explaining the grading system (marks system) of the applicant’s home country or university. No separate document is required if this information is provided in the transcripts of academic records.  
  5. A document proving the applicant’s knowledge of English (see language requirements). 
  6. Two letters of recommendation, preferably from (former) academic staff or from the applicant’s superiors in the institution. Reference letters should be typed on official stationary with the heading of the referee’s institution. Recommendations should be included in a closed envelope. Recommendations should be recent; referee letters older than 6 months will not be considered. Use the form included in your application package.
  7. A recent employer’s certificate stating the applicant’s present position within the organisation along with a precise description of the applicant’s professional responsibilities. The employer should emphasize on the importance of the training programme for the applicant’s position and for the organization as a whole. The employer should preferably demonstrate the possibility to transfer the acquired knowledge upon return of the applicant to the home country. 
  8. In case of scholarship applicant from a university engaged in a VLIR-IUC partnership, but not linked to an IUC funded department: a signed declaration by the Flemish IUC coordinator.
  9. One recent passport size photo (please write your name on the back).
  10. A photocopy of your international passport

Documents in English, French and Dutch are accepted. Documents in other languages must be officially translated into English or French by a sworn translator. 

Step 5: Print out the application form, sign the form and send the form with all required paper documents through regular mail or express mail to the secretariat before 1 February 2013.

The printed application form together with all required paper documents must be send through regular postal mail or express mail to the coordinator 1 February 2013 at the latest. The stamp on the letter will serve as proof. Please keep the postal receipt in case your file does not reach us in time.

All applicants shall receive an acknowledgement of receipt of their application by e-mail. Applicants, who are accepted will be contacted by e-mail by VLIR-UOS and IMDO at the latest on May 1st, 2013. Applicants who are not selected will also be informed.

Applications that are incomplete, illegible or reach the admission office after the deadline will be automatically rejected. Electronic applications are not accepted. Applications sent to VLIR-UOS Scholarship office shall not be considered.
